TOUCH Young Arrows

I have been volunteering with TOUCH Young Arrows (TYA) since 2019 June. Initially starting off as a school project, TYA soon became an indispensable part of my life. As a volunteer, I dedicate my Saturday mornings to helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds with academic coaching, as well as activities (named G.A.M.E.S) that aim to impart important values to the children.

Being a volunteer has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Consistently showing up for the children and listening to them share their stories with me, while being able to be a strong support system for them, is truly a life-changing experience.

In fact, I loved volunteering so much that I continued attending the weekly sessions even amidst my ‘A’ Level examinations. While my classmates called me ‘crazy’ and ‘a workaholic’, it was ironically the volunteering sessions that kept me going. I found purpose in volunteering, and it reminded me why I wanted to study hard - so that I would have the ability to help others in the future. I found joy in seeing my effort and hard work bear the fruits of its labour and seeing my impact on the ground. In one way or another, volunteering became a well-deserved break from studying, and a fuel that kept me going. Hopefully, I can continue this even as life gets busier from now on!
